What is…?
What is By Girls, For Girls?

There are also national and council level By Girls For Girls. The By Girls, For Girls National Advisory Committee is a team of girls from across the country who advise Girl Scouts of the USA on how to keep Girl Scouting relevant. They give input on the content and design of resources and maintain their own Web site on www.studio2b.org. Our council By Girls, For Girls advisory committee joins together to talk about, plan and evaluate events/activities and initiate future opportunities. Meetings are held at various times throughout the year. For details/info visit www.gsnetx.org/bygirlsforgirls
Today’s “by girls, for girls” approach encourages girls to voice their opinions, advocate for themselves and others, and share decision-making with their adult leader or adviser.
What is Girls Scouts of the USA?
Girl Scouts of the USA is the world’s preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls - all girls - where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnerships with committed adults, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives - like strong values, a social conscience, and a conviction about their own potential and self-worth. In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. Through many enriching experiences provided by Girl Scouting, they grow courageous and strong.
Who are Girls Scouts 11 - 17?
We typically refer to ourselves at Cadettes (ages 11 - 14) and Seniors (ages 14 - 17). Girls ages 11 - 17 participate in Girl Scouting in many ways. Under the guidance of a trained adult advisor, girls mix and match activities and resources to suit their needs while giving back to their communities. They connect with each other and build self-esteem and confidence in their skills as they work on a range of projects and gain life experience.

What is the Girl Scout Silver Award?
The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award for girls ages 11-14 (Cadettes). It represents a girl’s accomplishments in Girl Scouting and her community as she grows and works to improve her life and the lives of others. The first four requirements of the Girl Scout Silver Award help girls build skills, explore careers, gain leadership skills, and make a committment to self-improvement. The Girl Scout Silver Award Project can be undertaken when the first four requirements are completed. It can be done as an individual or with a group. If done with a group, a girl must be responsible for a specific part of the project and evaluate her contribution to the project and the group. More information can be found at the Girl Scout Web site.
What is the Girl Scout Gold Award?
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award that a Girls Scout 14-18 (Seniors) may earn. Someone once described the Girl Scout Gold Award as being “what you really want to be remembered for” in Girl Scouting. For many, the leadership skills, organizational skills, and sense of community and committment that come from “going for the Gold” set the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship. More info at the Girl Scout Web site.
