Robyn’s picks:
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
I honestly adore this book. If at any time you feel that you can’t get anywhere in life because of your current situation, read this book. The main character, Francie Nolan, grows up in the slums in Brooklyn, NY in the early 20th century. Through many family situations she’s unable to do certain things we take for granted like attending high school. But she overcomes each of them because she knows her own strength. Good read!

“There had to be the dark and muddy waters so that the sun could have something to  background its flashing glory.” - Francie Nolan
