Camping Equipment List

What to bring:

  • Outdoor sleeping bag
  • Flashlight with extra batteries
  • Toiletry kit (toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, soap)
  • Towel, wash cloth
  • Ponytail holders for long hair
  • Deodorant
  • Hat with brim
  • Cotton t-shirt for each day
  • 1 long sleeve shirt
  • Pants/capris for each day
  • Extra pair of sturdy athletic shoes
  • 3-4 pairs of socks
  • 2-3 pairs of underwear
  • Sleepwear
  • Raincoat or poncho. Trash bag with holes cut for head and arms works well too
  • Mess kit (unbreakable bowl, plate, cup with handle, knife, fork and spoon)
  • Dip bag (drawstring bag of nylon net- approx. 14 x 18″)
  • Water bottle
  • Bandana
  • Pillow or pillowcase (can stuff jacket into pillowcase to use as a pillow)
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Plastic bag to store dirty clothes
  • Any medication (needs to be stored with leader, noting dosage and frequency)
  • Jacket

Optional items:

  • Canvas chair, compass, disposable camera, book, cards, Girl Scout IP book, facial soap, shampoo/conditioner (when you know showers are available), whistle (only to be used on hikes in emergency situations), song book, sunglasses, insect repellent

Weather-specific gear

Cold weather:

  • Coat, sweater, sweatshirt (no windbreakers… fire hazard)
  • Sweats or long underwear for sleepwear
  • Warm gloves
  • Blanket (to be rolled up in sleeping bag)
  • Warm hat
  • Thermal socks

Warm weather

  • Swimsuit, swim towel (I will let you know if we will need these)
  • Shorts for each day
  • Sunscreen

Do NOT bring the following:

  • Flip-flops, cell phones, CD players, radios, aerosol cans of any type, personal food items, iPods, hairdryer, candy

Where do I put all this stuff???

Drawstring duffel bag

  • Sleeping bag (can roll pillow, blanket and sheets inside)
  • Extra shoes
  • Mess kit
  • Jacket

Small to large backpack:

  • Everything else on list
  • Roll clothes tight
  • Pack toothpaste, toothbrush, insect repellent, etc. in ziplock bag

*Note: If it isn’t on the list, don’t bring it. It’s that easy! You are responsible for packing and carrying your own gear. Definitly quit packing your gear in suitcases!
